mental illness and the courts

My brother was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia in 1985. His life and the life of those close to him have been affect by this condition over the years. Currently he is on trial on a charge of robbery which really was an incident where he was delusional, grabbed a woman's purse, threw it to the ground and walked away. For that act, he has spent several months in the Los Angeles County jail and is facing a second strike felony conviction that, if found guilty, will land him in prison for many years.

I am chronicling his saga in my Ocean Park Column blog.
